First Bike Accident

Mommy:

Sarah, you fell off your bike yesterday.

You rode down the alley to G-momo and Guffaws house to say, "Hi!" and on the way back you fell.  You were riding by yourself so we didn't see it.  You said your handlebars turned and you fell to the side and your bike fell on your leg.  The worst part was that you hit your forehead.  You were wearing a helmet but apparently it wasn't tight enough because the visor hit and broke and, the best we can guess, it made the helmet move up and back so your forehead made contact with the ground.

You also scrapped your upper thigh.

You were so tough and got up and walked your bike back to our house.

It's tough because we want to give you freedom and independence for little trips like that but the thought of you getting hurt and having no one to help you is hard for me to handle.  You handled it very well by yourself though.  We are proud of you!

Good Questions

DADDY:

You've been asking some great questions lately. Here were a couple good ones from tonight:

1. So there's a heavenly father, right...Why isn't there a heavenly mother?
2. So all people originally came from two people,  right? Then where did all the last names come from?

Mom and I love your questions. Never stop asking them.

Atoms, God, & Lunch

Sarah at lunch today: "Dad, I thought of one thing that doesn't have atoms."
Me (thinking Mmm, I think everything has atoms, but let's see what she says): "Yeah, what's that?"
Sarah: God.
Me: "I bet you're right. I've never thought about it that way before. Thank you for helping me think something new."
Lisa: "Jesus had atoms when he was on Earth."
Sarah: "I know. That's why I said God."

Story Love

You are an amazing reader. You can read full pages of MAGIC TREEHOUSE or A-Z MYSTERIES chapter books all by yourself. Every once in a while you need help pronouncing some word like "judgment" or "cease" or something with silent vowels or dipthongs, but that is amazing to me.

And you love reading. You just love it. You love the ideas of stories and getting surprised by what happens next. You love mystery stories.

Just a few days ago, we started paying you $.01 a page you read on your own from your books and $.10 from your Bible. You've earned $.11 on the first day at lunchtime.

Coming from someone like me who loves stories, it's a joy to watch you fall in love with stories and the Big God Story!

Such a Thoughtful & Capable Girl

Recently I was delayed at work on babysitting night and Guffaw was watching you and your sisters until I arrived.  When I got there Guffaw was in the rocking chair with sleeping Joy, who had been sick and throwing up on him. Poema was in the process of potty training and had an accident so she left her wet pants on the entry way floor and was going commando.  The kitchen had food everywhere, and therefore ants because we have had a recent ant problem.

I set down my bag of fast food and the phone rang.  It was your mommy checking to see how Joy was doing and whether you and Poema were in bed.  You were not. I cleaned up the food and the ants, and sat down with my cold fast food.  Sarah, you were so sweet.  You came over and told me that since I was having a hard day you were going to brush your teeth and go to bed really fast.  I told you I would take Joy after I finished eating so Guffaw could come in for your story and prayer.  I finished eating and took Joy, but Guffaw was trying to figure out what to do with commando Poema for bed and forgot about your story.  You got a book with a read along CD and did your own story.  When I went in to check on you you told me you had everything under control.  I love that you are such a thoughtful and capable girl.

Amazing Race

DADDY:

We've started a new tradition: Every Monday night we watch the Amazing Race TV show together. It's been a lot of fun watching you learn a little bit about the different areas around the world and see the consequences of things the teams learn while playing. Tonight we get to watch your first season finale of a TV show. You're really excited.

Proud Papa

Hey Sarah,

I'm just so proud of the girl you are becoming. You are so smart and beautiful. You are such a patient and loving big sister. You amaze me!
